War is a horrible, horrible thing, but no matter how bad it was it is made worse by the senseless murder of your own people. It is only a deeply disturbed mind who can think this is right. We hear of this happening routinely to Russian soldiers who are forced to retreat from the overwhelming power of the Ukrainian defences.
I recommend hebburn on BBC iplayer
Australians never sank to this level of barbarity, never have they killed their own.
Not one of the 306 men shot at dawn were cowards, they were all brave men, one and all.
37 of the 346 men who were shot at dawn had been found guilty of murder. The remainder executed for capital offences have been pardoned as a class. It is flawed reasoning to suppose that their various offences (mostly desertion) and the gravity of their conduct did not occur on a spectrum. It is unhelpful also to judge history by the values and standards of modern times. But for the fact that the death penalty and the manner of its delivery is now considered universally unacceptable, history deserves a relative examination of the behaviours of these men. It is a very great shame that this topic and the paper trail and the sentiment which attends it eclipses the fact that it was not unknown for an entire battalion of say 800 men doing their duty to disappear from the face of the earth in a single attack. I do not mean to make light of this issue but the whole of it represents one third of a morning’s work for one battalion in an extreme event.
@@jonathanlewis453 Exactly what I was going to say. Just like Khan removing statues in London that don't fit his "woke" narrative.
Lovely video. Are they nice places to live. ?
Royal mail place in jarra is abandoned i think now the sign isnt up anymore
It's still a main sorting office and u can go and collect parcels there when you've missed a delivery and they've put a card through your door. If you go around the back you'll normally see a few delivery vans
Roys station bridge is still there
I think he'll have meant we'll not see Roy's public house again
Johnny bothick is my grandfather bless his heart ❤
like your posts but wish there was some subtitles so people knew where and some times what they are looking at,
Hi Michael,I’m a student journalist at Sunderland University would I be able to use your video in my piece and credit you to it? Thanks Blake
Yes no problem
Ah happy days
Mick hennigan, 👍
Big hec, if he asked you for a donation ,who could refuse.👍👍
Big Freddie fishwick ,some suit 😎👍 oops just spotted mick hennigan too
I closed my 15 year old successful Local History website 'Old Tyneside' down because of Face Book users and this Michael McKee fella were helping themselves without crediting where they got them.. My big mistake in 2000 was not adding watermarks to my old photos. Think about it! where does this man get all the photos for his numerous slideshows.?
lovely to see this. they re [were?]the neighbours of my late partner Iain Bruce s mam. The last time i met them is about 6 years ago[2017],when I came over from Holland for a week.
No Dave Stewart or Alan Price ?
Didn't see Lindisfarne ???
Missed Leatherface ,Red Alert ,Futureheads
Fabulous.
LV,xx
Aarr, nice 👍 ali
This sounds great with the volume up high. The neigbours agree too as they keep banging on the wall, FOR MORE!
Public toys at kinks and lukes Lane community centre Steve Armstrong, Steve Robinson, Harry bullman and Steve Jackson, didn't know these photos existed. Happy days, great lads, is it really 40 years ago.
Drummer wanted…. Must be willing to drive the band everywhere whilst the rest of the band gets drunk and falls asleep in the back of the van. Must be a really good drummer and singer but gullible in all aspects of money. Must be prepared to contribute to buying band equipment but not expect money back when band breaks up. Must purchase own microphone then it will not be returned upon break up of band. Must be easily led when signing dodgy contracts. Must contribute money to band projects and expect no profit. Must be prepared to be ostracised for having an opinion.
Great lad and friend ❤
Great photos on here on Billy ohare and my wingman mick Alderson .
Hi this video was made 4 years ago sorry cannot remember names .old age catching up
hi at the end of these pictures, can you tell me the people that were standing on the field. the lad had a sailors uniform on. it looks like the bottom of haggerston terrace. thanks.
Thank you for the video, pictures I haven’t seen before, what a horrific day that was, what lovely community spirit as it is today. RIP to lost Children of Aberfan and the 28 Adults, may they all rest in peace❤️🇬🇧💐🌷🌺
There is a picture of my late wife near the end ?? dont know how they got the picture ?
Aye Hebburn swimming baths, I always loved the chip buggies there and shoot/slide when I was little. I personally think the new Hebburn baths is absolutly awful. The staff are miserable and horrible, the swimming pools are tiny and sauna is well not the same as the old one anymore. It's just such a shame that the new swimming baths could off built it abit bigger with amounts of space. Such a waste and shame really.
Who sings this song that in in the background and what is it called
Gerry rafferty night owl . Baker street
@@MegaStirfry thank you
Great photos
Absolutely brilliant portrayal of human dignity and determination, a stark contrast to todays' so called protesters. Heroes one and all.
just stumbled on this by accident,my granda Billy Badger speaking at the start, would love to hear the original audio to see what he's saying I don't have any videos of him
Mr mckee I love your stuff about Hebburn, and I send to you my love for the loss of your daughter Helen xxxxx
I’ve lost friends to the dreaded cancer and there is not a day goes by where I don’t think of them It’s so sad so tragic and all taken before their time
Brilliant I rember it well
I think I went there once in the 80's when I worked at reyrolles with Tommy macfadien.
Hi, I'm working with Spark Sunderland for a project looking back at recent cup final wins for North East sides. (Side note I'm helping at Hebburn for home match 'behind the scenes' for a bit!) Is it alright if I use your video, with credit back to this video, for a timeline to show the team's 2020 season Vase win?
Yes no problem , good luck with your project
@@MegaStirfry Thanks very much to both of your points!
06:04 I remember Colin McCord from my school days, same year, nice lad, I bumped into him about 10 years ago, he remembered me, so sad he has gone. RIP How did he pass away?
Hi, would you know who the copyright owner is for the image of Joe, that appears around 1'52", please? It's the one of Joe, sat a table in his costume with a pint in front of him. I would like to, respectfully, seek permission to use it for a project I'm working on. Kind regards & thank you for uploading the video, it's a great watch.
Hi , if you go on jarrow memories page you should find it on there ,thanks for watching video
Top top guy is joe, ppl don’t realise how much he has done for charity. He’s not to well these days n doesn’t get out a lot, but he was a friend of my late father n a real gent as well
God bless Roseann potts
Definitely soulless, it's now just a commuter town, nothing more.
This is not the song in the description. I don’t know who this is but the original is “Reflections of my life” by Marmalade. Edit. Whoops! Shouldn’t have dived in so early. Description is the second song.
